Give to CTM

Donors interested in supporting the Center for Teaching and Mentoring have two options for giving. Our CTM Enhancement Fund broadly supports our educational development programs for MTSU faculty, academic affairs staff, and graduate students. The Tom Brinthaupt Faculty Learning Communities Award directly supports our faculty learning communities. A Faculty Learning Community is a group of interdisciplinary faculty who engage in an active, collaborative, year-long program focused on researching a scholarly and pedagogical topic that is important to the larger academic community.

Tom Brinthaupt, Professor Emeritus of Psychology

Tom Brinthaupt was a faculty member in the MTSU Department of Psychology from 1990 – 2024. He received his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York – Oneonta, his master’s degree from St. Bonaventure University, and his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. He was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor in 1995 and promoted to Professor in 2000. Tom served as Director of Faculty Development for MTSU’s teaching and learning center for faculty—the Learning, Teaching, and Innovative Technologies Center (LT&ITC)—from 2010-2023.

During his time as Director of Faculty Development, Tom facilitated the development and operation of the Faculty Fellows Program. This was one of the Center’s signature programs for faculty. It was a teaching and professional development opportunity designed to work with a faculty member’s specific and unique needs. He was also responsible for managing the Center’s Faculty Learning Community (FLC) program. An FLC is a group of interdisciplinary faculty members who engage in an active, collaborative, year-long program around a central theme. Tom oversaw the operation of more than 40 FLCs between 2012-2023. In addition, he facilitated the development of a culture of faculty writing at MTSU. From 2006 onward, he presented more than 50 workshops at the LT&ITC.

Tom received numerous awards and recognitions during his time at MTSU. These included the MTSU Foundation Outstanding Achievement in Instructional Technology awards in 2007 and 2014, the MTSU Foundation Distinguished Research Award in 2020, the MTSU John Bragg Distinguished Service Award in 2006, the College of Education and Behavioral Science University Community Award in 2007, and MTSU Career Achievement Award in 2022. Tom always maintained that the FLC program was the best thing that our teaching and learning center did. It is for this reason that he wanted to create an endowed account to support FLCs at MTSU in perpetuity.
